"I love sports bikes and ride a Buell. At the moment I’m working on a T140 café racer.
But 15 years ago I had a BSA chopper, and I really built this Triumph bobber for old time’s sake.
It took a while to get to grips with the pre-unit gearbox because even when it was up and running it still needed a lot of attention!
In fact it seemed like only the engine had been looked after, apart from for the primary chain case that needed welding, the lifeless dynamo, the clutch, the leaks everywhere (oh yes!).
The frame must have taken a real hammering; it needed a complete paint job. The oil tank was held on with cable ties, the forks were dead, the brake drums had become egg-shaped, and various brackets were ill-positioned. The mudguards, exhausts, and lights needed seeing to - not to mention the wiring which was completely unfathomable!
I decided on two 16" wheels, the front guard is a rear Bonnie, shortened and back to front, with my own brackets. It looks right with the wide forks and the "Bobber" look, the nineteen fifties sports bikes.
A nice coat of varnish some "rigid" stickers made from reflective film. The famous chequered flags add to the sporty look, it may not be lightning fast; in fact it’s almost like handling a dirt bike, the way it slips, slides and back-fires!!
